START OF THE PROJECT
& LAST RIDE GIPFELBAHN
After the project starts, you will find here the construction diary of the new 10-person gondola “Kanzelbahn II” from Kanzelhöhe to the Gerlitzen summit.
After the excavation pit for the foundation of the new valley station was completed over the past few days, the first concrete delivery arrived today at 1:00 PM. This officially marks the start of the next construction phase - the focus now shifts from demolition to rebuilding!

After the valley station has now been completely dismantled, demolition of the summit station at 1,911 m above sea level has also begun. At the same time, excavation work has already started in the area of the valley station for the construction of the new Kanzelbahn II valley station.

The machines get quickly to work. In a very short time, the entire valley station of the Gerlitzen Gipfelbahn, including the station building, is gradually dismantled piece by piece, until soon nothing remains of the long-familiar facility.

The summit of the Gerlitzen Alpe, as well as the area around the valley station and the access roads, are completely free of snow. The night shift was successful and created the conditions for a smooth start. With the beginning of the new phase of work, demolition of the summit lift has now also begun. The rope is being removed and then properly coiled.

After the last skiers had left the summit of the Gerlitzen Alpe, our team immediately began preparations for the start of construction on April 7, 2026. The goal was to completely clear snow from the entire summit area, as well as from the terrain around the valley station of the summit lift and the access roads leading to the peak. This ensured that construction work could begin as scheduled and without delay in the early morning hours.

With the last day of operation of the 2025/26 ski season, a piece of cable car history on the Gerlitzen Alpe comes to an end: the Gipfelbahn from Kanzelhöhe (1,440 m) to the Gerlitzen summit (1,911 m) is ceasing operations after an impressive 38 years. For decades, it has safely transported countless winter sports enthusiasts and excursion visitors to the summit and was, for many, a fixed part of their mountain experience.
On the final day of operation, there is once again lively activity before the lift retires into its well-earned retirement. At 4:10 p.m., the last visitors reach the mountain station and enjoy the ride and the view one final time. Afterwards, the chairs make their final journey down into the valley and return to the station at the base terminal, where they are ultimately removed from the cable. This marks the end of an era for this historic installation, which has shaped the image of the Gerlitzen Alpe for many years.

The first construction machines for the building of Kanzelbahn II (second section) have been delivered! It won’t be long now until the official start of construction on the evening of April 6, 2026.

We are excited to announce that on March 19, 2026, the construction negotiations for our new 10-person gondola, the “Kanzelbahn II,” were successfully completed. Construction is scheduled to begin on April 7, 2026.
The new lift will replace the summit lift (4-person chairlift) and will quickly and comfortably take you from Kanzelhöhe directly to the Gerlitzen summit - offering an even better mountain experience in both winter and summer.
